Over £10,000 has been collected to support the family of Joshua Lloyd Roberts, a 19-year-old pupil who tragically passed away after a suspected hit-and-run incident in Caeathro, Gwynedd. Joshua, a second-year sports performance evaluation pupil at Cardiff Metropolitan University, was discovered on Ffordd Waunfawr on June 2. The police arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of inflicting dying by harmful driving, failing to cease after a collision, and failing to report a collision. The suspect has since been launched on bail.
Joshua’s household expressed their heartbreak, remembering him as someone who “always had a stunning smile on his face.” Osian Tudur, a close good friend of Joshua since their school days, described him as “popular and likeable.” A Go Fund Me web page was set up to help help the family, with the initial target of £1,000 being surpassed in just over 24 hours as the entire reached £10,000.
“The assist is wonderful, everyone appears to be coming collectively to try to assist. This is the least we will all do, but hopefully it’s some type of assist to the family at such a troublesome time,” Tudur mentioned.
Joshua was an avid soccer fan, supporting Everton and his hometown group of Caernarfon. He played for the Gym Gym Society at Cardiff and Bontnewydd FC. In his reminiscence, Bontnewydd and Caernarfon Town will play a friendly match on Thursday evening, with donations going to help his family. A minute’s silence will be held at Bontnewydd FC’s floor Cae Stanley earlier than the sport, which starts at 6:30pm.
Chris Garlick, chairman of Bontnewydd FC, said Joshua can be a “great loss to the membership and all his friends” and that “football was in his heart.” He expressed hope for a great turnout on the match to recollect the younger man who “had the whole world ahead of him.”
Treasure from the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit said the victim’s household is being supported by specialist officers. “Our heartfelt condolences stay with Joshua’s family at this extremely tough time,” he added..
